well, there are many possibilities to choose heavy topics for research, but my consideration is to look back at the condition of our own comics position. We should realize that comics studies has not yet been a significant study. My consideration also not to make myself as an author, if i only want to be an author, i don't need to do any research. Just find some comics and do several analysis on it then publish it internationally. I don't need any legitimation for my writing. But research attitude is different for me. I have to re-search and find a suitable study that has the most significant to current comics situation here. Within my time constrain, i saw even there is nobody wrote about the 'map' of our local comics scene, academically of course, but we know everybody are talked about it, arguing about it. And i'm not the comics expert, i'm just a researcher, i'm willing to collect all the debates, opinions, pro & cons, report it by analyzing and interpret it, and i wish at the end, it could be benefit back to the comics society.
if then, our local comics movement become better, and we found better comics, better awareness from society, then the next researcher can go further and deepen their study. If our local comics industry become better and better, then there would be lots of high quality comics or high art comics that need to further discuss, research and critics. Then, maybe comics can be part of literature, media and philosophy significant subject.Thats why all your stories, opinion, pro&con are very fruitful thought. i hope you guys understand why i'm trying to do. Even if we can follow an artist such as jafaar taib working on a project, from zero to finish, it could also be a good research. Recording, discussing, observing etc. and come up with the writing. That the process from nothing to something can be consider as the art itself, the concept itself. we will never know what will happen in the mid of our study. for me that is the beauty of research rather then become an author. just my 2 cent.

Also, PTAR library is missing vol 3 of IJOCA ( that has prof muliyadis writings and a few others on Malaysian comics ) do you have any copies of those?

Sorry for the long hiatus. I was just…being busy in my most anti-social manner. I just simply found myself logged back to pergh, while browsing in the net comics books to buy/read. Seriously babe, do you actually have “A Comics Studies Reader”? 'cos, should you do, I will be more than willing to obtain a 'copy' from you.
By the by, I've just recently finished my VIVA, and I guess, out of the two hours or so presentation/Q& A, I think I will be owning the elusive certificate one of these days. And, yeah, I might even let you read my thesis too, cool thing that I am. If there is anything conclusive of the VIVA, it was that I should've develop a proper philosophical attitude/ writings to the dissertation. It helps to give a vague ambience.

Before I get out of topic, I still think “The function of Comics” is to devour the juvenile in us. It is like a space of conflicting ideologies, awaiting a proper mind so as to exist.
