wo….besttt painting tu
This is my second and final work for this semester.
this is merely a resized preview as the actual size is about 3 x 4 feet printed. It's also the first time i tried to paint something so huge digitally.. on a god-forgiving dying and very old laptop of mine.
So far, I'm happy at least because I managed to do this under a very short period of time with techniques borrowed and tried from a lot of my favourite digital artists. I still need to work this by painting traditionally to touch up certain parts that I don't like and adding brush strokes in it.. Or so planned, if god wills it before the final assessment.
kinda sad but unsurprised that a lot of what i hoped as 'digital brush strokes' in this painting are mostly gone because of the resizing, oh well. ;p
So anyway, basically, this painting tells the part in the ending of the 1st chapter of the Legends of Merong Mahawangsa or else known as the Kedah Annals where the Prince of Rum marries the Princess of China in Kedah, Malaya.
(now that I uploaded it, it looks soooo odd and unfinished.. OH WELL it's my first time to paint digitally after centuries)
statement skit dan reason napa x letak orang ROME ada kat da,
baru-baru ni, aku buat work utk raya tapi lupa lak nak upload sini haha
so, nah.. harap korang enjoy dan paling penting skali, Salam Aidilfitri, Pergh!
Wasn't sure to post it here or in the writing thread since it's basically both lol
but since it's not dialogued, guess I'll just put it here then,
The comic takes place in the Malay Nusantara, in the 15th century, where a group of mercenaries hailing from many countries and states come together forming the 'League of Warriors' to become the best mercenary group in all of Nusantara. Each coming from different backgrounds, each have their own abilities and specialties as well as their own story to tell.
The story begins with a young woman seeking for protection by hiring a bodyguard as she is wanted by an evil lord of her state. Even so, she was captured as they were outnumbered. After her bodyguard manages to rescue her, she later on becomes part of the mercenary group out of reasons she could not return to her chaotic country. There, she learns to become a mercenary, adapting to her new life while aiding the mercenary captain's quest for the League of Warriors' glory in becoming the best mercenary company alive by taking on missions as well as facing enemies such as bandits, pirates, rival mercenary companies, and even lord of states trying to expand their borders.
This will be my first official comic in hoping to be serialized and distributed if it manages to gain feedback from editors. If succeed, then I will continue this on as a series. If not, it will be scrapped and I will find something else to do.
Dialogues will be inserted soon after.
I hope you all at least enjoy the work as of now.
Background and scenes used in the Liga Prajurit comic
A) Exterior view of the Liga Prajurit's Hall – The hall used by the members as a place for gatherings, briefing missions and resting
Interior view of The Liga Prajurit's Hall – The large main hall used by the members as a place for gatherings, briefing missions and resting
C) Bull fighting ring – Used by the Sultan as a place to stage bull fighting games as well as fighting tournaments among chosen warriors.
lama x update sini jd saya ada 2 page baru buat minggu ni dn minggu lepas
Liga Prajurit page 13
Probably by next week, I'll try to put in the actual dialogues.
Then, we'll have ourselves an actual 'webcomic' by every week.
visit my blog at zharifhazwan.blogspot.com for future updates.
edit: fixed and reuploaded image because that kid looks kinda disturbing at first lol. Hopefully now better.
The last few pages,I think the lines are too thin and there's not a lot of variation in terms of line weight. The character is drowned by the busy background because of it.If done correctly, those line weight will give them a lot of dynamism and life, and will give a lot more solid composition overall. Also, kurangkan garisan putus-putus.
Anyway, the bullfighting ring looks cool. The fish eye effect makes the whole shot looks interesting. And noticed that you like to experiment with different viewpoints and perspective which is good.Just be careful with the figure placement and scale, because some of them looked like they are floating above the ground, and lots of other inconsistencies.
If you want to learn more (since you're taking up arts),there's books like Ernest Norling's 'Perspective Made Easy' which is a good book, and 'Successful Drawing' by Andrew Loomis; both can be found easily if you look hard enough that tackles these problems.
Oh,and here's a quick general guide to line weight by a very helpful animator friend. This is just a general guide,so remember, “there's no rules, just tools”.
ah, thank you for the thorough critic.
I will certainly re-work the visual technical parts while putting in dialogues next time.
As for the line weight, that is something I've been trying to figure out. Before this current work, most of my lineart consisted of heavy or thick lines but I was dissatisfied because at that time, I still couldn't get the right way to do it. For a moment, thin lineart was the way to go. I'm guessing referencing from certain japanese animation/manga style(couldn't remember exactly which) where using thin lineart and using texture, shapes or negative area between subjects was enough to differentiate between subject and background.
Thank you, really. I couldn't find the faults myself and was hoping someone would give something for me to work on. And those references are just as useful.
ps: garisan putus-putus yg macam mana tu? yg atas tikar tu ke? atas bumbung? ke semua yg berkaitan?
Honestly, my placement of the dialogues feels amateurish. Or maybe I just haven't done it in a while so everything feels so awkward right now.
I seriously need some pointers with this. Seriously.
Although I did started touching up the lineart.

experimenting with dialogue bubbles and whatnot. I need comic fonts with lowercase because ones I currently use, don't have.
as always, i thank you for the input and please do not shy away from pointing out any writing/visual problems.
Liga Prajurit 4
Thank you for the feedback and as always, don't be shy to point out anything.
PS: I've also fixed the empty background problem for the previous page. Hopefully now for the better. It's not perfect but at least it's better than leaving it empty, I guess.

inspired by @http://bitrix-studio.deviantart.com/
one of the official artists for Mount and Blade Warband.
at first, I only wanted to play the game but then I noticed one of the reasons I kept playing it is because I loved the scenic and captivating illustrations.
This is very random I know but it's for a group thingie where we draw anything by a given theme and strangely for this month it's about, 'hoe/mattock/hack/cangkul'.
I enjoyed the experimentation through referencing the master's work though.
For some who may have followed this comic's development may notice that I skipped a page. This is because I find that particular page to be bothersome by visually difficult (proportions, composition and whatnot) and suffers writing problem that got me an artblock or writing block you may add for the whole week. Decided not to stop, I tried skipping it and tried a different approach – skipping it completely.
So I was hoping if anyone who has followed could tell if this is an okay attempt or does it cause more confusion in terms of storyline and such.
I hope any would point it out and just let me know whethere it's alright or not.
and here are some extras;
recently been in Suai Kenal HIKMAH. Sitting in the same room with the top hardcore underground researchers the country has to offer… and i did stuff
experience through the talk; here are examples of some drawn ones. others are notes, written stuff, etc.
and some research on some malay weapons. it feels great to be given permission to just handle them on your own with your bare hands. makes a lot of difference than just looking through a display case.
Managed to update early this week.
Been doing a lot of stuff including university work and all but I've been able to manage so far and might as well use this free time to update some.
I've done the next page as well but I'd probably upload it this sunday. The next page will be consisting of experimentation by using iconic fonts in a fight scene to test visual impact and readability.
The flow of the page is imperfect but for this time, it'll have to do.
focused primarily on experimentation of fonts.
Feel free to point out anything that might help in making this better. Thank you!
by the way, just for fun, here are stuff and sketches i did during a class on introduction to traditional archery, scrambler bikes and more bows and arrows and stuff
sweet the girl tuu… :pompom:
matang dah stroke nih berbanding awal2.
Terima kasih semua!
update mggu ni,
so, I've managed to complete the JATAYU comic. All is left is to do the cover page and then it'll be ready for contest submission this mid-december.
I'll just put the blog post as putting all 7 pages here would stretch the page too far to the point of inconvenience.
so hope y'all enjoy reading! and still open for any last minute fixes that may be noteworthy.
Because a comic isn't complete without a comic cover.
I've just sent my comic submission last night at the last minute for the contest submission through email. Hopefully they'll get it by now.
So the announcement of nominees and winners would be around 15th December and will be announced in their sites, facebook and twitter. So, all is left is to just pray and wait. (Wish me luck!)
And since I'm done with this one-shot, I'll probably start continuing doing Liga Prajurit pages by next week. Stay tuned!
This is what I've been busy for the past two weeks,
these are my final paintings for this semester,
a small composition sketch that didn't make it as a final painting but still liked it regardless;
it might be difficult to see from these pictures but here's what it looks like from above. This paintings are meant to pop-up or be in the form of 3-dimensional.
and since they are shaped paintings, they have much room for lulz, this is what my friends did to it after it was finished.
oh and btw, I've been to the comic fiesta recently and that JATAYU comic? was displayed in their booths. you may look into it more in my blog, zharifhazwan.blogspot.com
best best long jack long life

(copy pasted from the blog for convenience)
SO anyway, I've been working on something different recently, taking a bit of a break from doing Liga comics. It's basically about airships and sea ships battling each other among other stuff but we'll get to that later.
For now, I did a few sketches that have been quite a while that were stuck in the head so I just had to let it all out.
I love how everything works so far but have been trying to figure out the kinks and if anything make sense or not.
Here are some of the sketches,
Probably more later.
